Job Description
Directors of surgical services are responsible for directing all surgical services, such as procedures, signing documents, arranging payments, and providing accurate data regarding surgeries for their institutions, as well as coordinating a group of professionals to complete surgery organization tasks and provide necessary information to schedule surgeries. They also facilitate paperwork and explain legal details as well as risks during surgeries and must follow strict confidentiality regulations at all times to prevent identity theft incidents.
These directors work closely with operating room supervisor to share information regarding requirements and medical needs, and may help monitor staff and provide leadership in technicalities when referring individuals to different medical areas. They may be responsible for modifying times and providing pre-operation care, as well as interacting with surgical assistants and directing them to complete medical tasks. They log information, write reports, and communicate with patients and community representatives, and also provide oversight for medical surgeries and assist in recovery by following up with patients and their families.
Directors of surgical services help manage time and financial responsibilities. They budget materials and operating room time distribution and should be able to multitask on a variety of projects to achieve institutional goals in a timely manner. They ensure that all supplies and equipment are clean and ready for use. Directors should have strong interpersonal skills to find innovative solutions for real-time issues, prioritize surgeries, and provide quality service.
Requirements
Bachelor’s of Science in Nursing or Master’s Degree in Nursing/Hospital Administration
Current registered nursing license from country of professional practice
Minimum of eight (8) years of working experience as a Registered Nurse in Surgical Services area
