Want Financial Freedom? Dave Ramsey at Passion City Church gives talk on, " Why money is not the root of all evil"-

I recently visited Passion City Church this weekend and  was amazed at the large atmosphere and how it ironically gave way to a cozy- small environment vibe. A married couple, new found friends of mine, invited myself and a fellow co-worker to attend Passion and needless to say I was excited but had my reservations. As a 20 something many guys and gals my age have been talking non stop about Louie Giglio's new up and coming church. (granted the church started meeting in 2009 in Atlanta) This particular Sunday morning,  Dave Ramsey spoke on financial freedoms, what to do with God's money.

For those of you who may not know, Dave is a financial guru and really loves telling God's people about the joy of giving. He started by sharing his own testimony and how the Lord used him at his 'richest' and 'poorest.' He also mentioned something very important I believe, to our culture. We've been conditioned to think that money is the root of all evil, that the Bible preaches this when in reality this is false. "The love of money however is the root of all evil."

"Money enhances who you already are"- We have also been told that money is 'bad' because it can morph a person into this different version of themselves, to be greedy and mean.  Money, like most successes really just enhances the person you already are.

In light of this, Dave gives us 4 key things to help mediate on ( this thought of money being an idol, and money being used for the Glory of God's Kingdom)

1. Have a budget

2. Foster high quality relationships- you are indeed who you hang around, and if the people you are friends with don't have the same vision you have for your money ( saving, and investing to Glorify God) then your vision will dwindle over time.

3. Save and Invest- this one really stuck out to me because I often use the excuse most people my age use, "I'm a broke college kid, I can't save money" or something along those lines- this is untrue and a sort of becomes a 'way out'- don't let it.

4. Lastly, once these are all accomplished you can now give generously

This video isn't quite up yet on Passion's website, but be sure to be on the lookout for it, I found the talk itself to be quite helpful! Also comment with what tips you found particularly helpful from Dave Ramsey-

Very important distinction! How many of us have grown up with the idea that money is a necessary evil and that we should only use it as a necessary evil. But like Dave Ramsey pointed out, is the LOVE of money which is the problem, not money itself. Great point about it simply being an applifier of what who we already are. Thanks for highlighting this important topic. It's one we need to develop a proper view of as believers.
